A few weeks agone my phone started reading text messages out loud. These can come from Facebook Messenger or Hangouts or whatever texting apps I have. I'm running Nougat and take searched high and depression for the setting to turn this off. Since multiple apps all read text messages to me I would think this would be a arrangement setting rather than an app setting. Nonetheless I cannot detect that setting. I've read many supposed fixes but many of them are just incorrect. They tell me things similar go into settings > vocalization actions or some such and there is no vox actions nether settings ("phonation actions" is just an example. I read of many unlike ones, so I check the posting date and see something similar posted in 2013 or something. It'southward articulate to me that the settings choice accept inverse a lot since then and such directions are just mode off).

This should be simple. At that place should exist ane setting at the system level that says whether or not to read the text of incoming text messages but for the life of me I cannot discover it on my Galaxy S7 running Nougat. Sometimes I beginning chatting with a specially aggressive Facebook user and my phone is flight off the claw trying to read all the text letters. It's a existent waste of time.

How the hell do yous turn this off!

Settings > Search > type in "speak". I accept "Speak Passwords" (that's not it), "Plough off all Sounds" (sounds draconian - presents a carte du jour of choices including "Turn off all sounds" (not skilful), Hearing aids (Sorry I'm not hard of hearing), Samsung subtitles (I'grand not looking for subtitles), Google subtitles (even so not looking for subtitles), Left/Right Audio Residue (no that'south not information technology), Mono Audio (not it either). Sad "speak" is no clue.

The only other thing I observe when I search for "speak" is "Text-to-speech" who's carte is "Samsung Text to Speak" (Non looking for this), "Google Text-to-speech" (yes this is toggled on), Spoken communication Rate (non what I'm looking for), Pitch (also not what I'm looking for), Reset Pitch (pitch is fine), Listen to example (don't need to listen to an example - I'chiliad trying to cease speech not heed to information technology!), Default Language Condition (also not what I'yard looking for).

What I'm looking for: A simple switch to tell my f-ing phone to terminate reading texts out loud!

Of form! The question still is "where *exactly* is this setting!!!".

Let me evidence you. Going into settings and utilizing the search characteristic I observe text-to-speech:

Either Text-to-spoken communication link goes to the same place:

Nothing in a higher place is a "turn off text-to-speech communication" switch.
At that place is ane more setting if I scroll down which says "Default language status" simply that has cypher to do with turning off text-to-speech anyway:

Tapping the trivial gear icon next to "Google Text-to-Spee..." looked promising and presents me with:

Finally I'grand thinking Settings for Google Text-to-speech communication.." might be the identify but alas no:

And then again, where is this magic setting?!?

Kickoff off, I'grand non trying to stop the notification sounds that may exist involved in a phone call. It'south non a phone call only text messages.

Secondly, There is no "bulletin call voice" in settings on my phone. I'm running nougat. What are yous running?

It's clear to me that the settings area is vastly different from one version of Android to the side by side. It may even be vastly different between telephone manufacturers such every bit LG vs Samsung. I'm Samsung S7 running nougat, which is what I put in the OP.

  8. today

I'1000 on nougat likewise. Its obvious that you want the reading of messages to finish. Even like phones on different carriers can have different bachelor settings just equally different devices can have like settings.

Merely trying to help. I will stop now. Maybe someone else has the same phone on the same carrier with the same issue and can point you in the right direction. Sorry I couldn't help. Proficient luck.

Found information technology. It was this "Talk and Tone" app that I run that controls my wireless bluetooth headphones. It has a setting that was ill described that I had turned on. The manner I discovered it was that I noticed a notification with a "End" push in one case when information technology was going off and I long tapped information technology to forbid information technology to give me notifications and I noticed information technology said "Talk and Tone". I and so went into the app and institute the setting and turned it off. Perchance this volition help somebody else.

defaria, give thanks you so much. I could experience your frustration while reading the above comments because I had been beating my caput confronting the aforementioned wall and YOU plant the solution. I take a same problem, it happened when i connect my phone on my motorcar. Im using galaxy A80 with android xi. Everytime a new text bulletin appeared, it will always said outloud. My letters is on bahasa, so the speech was super terrible since the only language is english. So information technology ends up with the worst speech ever.

Fifty-fifty worse at that place is no option to disable it. Tried searching for the options, even text to speech or talkback, nevertheless happened.Your solutions aren't helping me at all. Trying to search for answers only there is cypher. I have no talk and tone installed. Its similar there is no option to turn off this feature. Or this is the default feature.

Cheers and so much android who make this useless characteristic. I merely wanna mind to my songs on spotify, in my auto eithout distractions. I wish they added the disable push just to turn of this useless feature.
